Announcing: The Overrated Dress Makeover

If anyone has been actually been reading this, you've likely seen my ongoing list of dresses I hate (or are overhyped) but everyone has lost their fucking minds over, and being the clueless bitch that I am (keyword being "clueless" because I have no experience in clothing design and failed a costuming class in college), I've decided to recreate the gowns and make them even worse than before.

The dresses:
Cinderella's Blue Gown from Disney's "Ever After" "Cinderella" live remake (2015)

I've already ranted about this dress numerous times already, so here's the short version:
Doesn't look like the original, wrong color, not enough sparkle, and the Goddamn butterflies didn't match and made the whole thing look cheap.

Emma Watson's Yellow Dress from "Beauty and the Beast" live remake (2017)

So, there's been talk going around that Emma herself had created the dress because she wanted it to be more "Emma" than "Belle" but I haven't seen anything to back the latter part up. However, the designer has a tendency of making things look "off the rack" meaning you could go to a "David's Bridal" (or a similar store) and find it on the clearance rack. -insert rattlesnake noise from "Drag Race" here-

Claire's Red Dress from "Outlander" Season two

I'm hesitant to do this because I kinda like it. However, I do have some nitpicks about it (like saggy tits never looked good on anyone) and there were things I wanted to tweak with (try a different fabric, find a way to make the bodice stronger and support the girls, play around with the skirt, etc.)

Acid Betty's "Bitch Perfect/Red carpet" Runway look from "RuPaul's Drag Race)

As much as I really do enjoy Betty's looks both off and on "Drag Race" this was just a "ugck" for me. Admittedly, I'm actually scared about doing this one. Why? Cause (1) I know I'll really fuck this up worse than both LailaMcQueen and Dax Exclamation (No)Point both did in their lipsync combined and (2) oddly enough, I'm not alone in my reaction (other people didn't like it either).

(Dis)Honorable Mention
Joy Villa's Grammy "Voldermort" dress from 2017 Grammys:

In the event that I chicken out on doing the last two dresses, this' going to be a filler. Joy said she wore it to "show support for her president" while becoming a hit amongst the still gullible conservatives. Even without the controversial print, the dress' silhouette is just fail also.

I FINALLY did the the thing

Around 2011/2012, I decided to write a fan letter to Tom Hiddleston, whose not only my favorite actor but one of my favorite people in the entire universe. This proved to be more difficult than I imagined since I have a huge tendency of overthinking things and I was so scared that whatever I put down made me sound like I was a stalker and so it took 5-6 years to write it but I finally sent it last month.  Unfortunately, I'll never know if he'll get it or not since I couldn't afford the autograph option and I did put in my social media handles so I ended being creepy in the end.
Well, at least it got finished and Tom, if you are reading this, hi.

Unpopular Costume Opinions

  • I find a lot of popular costume designers (Sandy Powell, Jacqueline Durran, etc) to be really overrated.
  • I hate all things Regency.
  • I'm still mad as fuck that Kate Hawley (Crimson Peak) was snubbed at the Oscars but Powell got 2 nods (Carol AND Cinderella).

Costumes/Gowns/Looks that I can't stand but everyone LUVS! (Ongoing)

Reading Is Fundamental: My reactions to Emma's costumes from "Beauty and the Beast."

I have a bone to pick with Disney as of late. They've been doing a one-step-forward-too-many-steps-back dance recently so when a link to this post showed up in the FaceBook sewing guild I'm in, I got mad at the post (NOT THE POSTER!) but still clicked it anyway and the library is open.

To start off let's talk about the main blue dress:

While we only see the top part of the dress, it actually resembles what is worn in the animated film something that "Cinderella"'s costume designer failed to do but that film failed to do a lot of things. Not sure how I feel about her headband, but overall it's a toot.

Now let's move onto Belle's iconic yellow ball gown:

Okay, I think I'm seeing a trend here and it's spend a fortune to turn a classic costume into a cheap tacky prom dress that looks absolutely nothing like the original AND EVERYONE WILL LURVE IT AND THINK YOU'RE A FUCKIG GENEIUS!! NO!!! DO NOT WANT!! Give me the goddamn original dress (that was actually pretty) not something you found on sale at David's Bridal! The one thing I do like is that there are NO CHEAP GODDAMN BUTTERFLIES CLASHING ON THE DRESS and the beast (aka Adam) looks nice but I boot this look so hard.
The library is now closed.

Ever After 2K18 Blog-venture Part 1: Choosing the dresses

In July of '98, "Ever After: A Cinderella Story" was released in theaters. For me, it has always been one of my favorite costume movies (plus being a source of comfort and support growing up), and since it'll be turning 20 in 2018, I've figured I'd make, not one, but TWO of the dresses.

The first is nicknamed the "Ruins" Gown. This dress is a favorite of mine (it reminds me of Buttercup's red gown from "The Princess Bride") and looks simple enough to to as I still can easily find a good portion of the materials used.

The second, of course, is the iconic "Breathe" Gown. I'm very much aware that everything about this dress is out of my talent (and budget) range but, like I've said, it iconic. It's the first dress that comes to mind when someone mentions "Ever After" and IT'S GOT WINGS DAMMIT! I GET TO BE THE GODDAMN BUTTERFLY THAN HAVE THEM RANDOMLY SPLATTERED ON MY DRESS!!

So, yeah, that's it. I still have to figure out a budget for both gowns, sewing machine repairs/tune-ups, and other stuffs (ie. wing commission) but I'll be updating the process here.

Lush Boxing Day Haul (UK package)

So every December 26, Lush has an annual sale where most of the Holiday stuff is on sale for either half off (UK) or Buy One Get One (US) and the sale lasts until supplies run out. I got stuff from both sites and today (Dec 31) my UK package arrived! So, with my new Scorpion plushie playing as a model/presenter, here's what I got from Lush UK.
